KVA Stainless is now introducing INOX Bicycles! While we love supplying our high quality MS3 tubing to bikes companies around the world our manufacturing creativity has gotten the better of us. KVA's rich background in heat treating and out-of-the-box thinking will be put into making these no-frills race frames. INOX bikes will be available in common sizes to bring you a high quality race frame made in the Escondido California out of the most high tech stainless steel frame material. Making the frames will be done without some of the traditional equipment, with our background in tubing we've come up with specialized equipment and a manufacturing sequence to improve quality and efficiency, all translating to a better bike.
INOX frames are welded by the same guy who most likely welded your childhood BMX frame, but even with 30 years in the industry he would like to remain anonymous, because that’s how he rolls… We’ll give you a hint though: GT Bicycles™ and SE Racing™. INOX Bicycles are fully heat treated to eliminate the heat affected areas caused by welding, allowing INOX frames to be lighter than other steel and stainless steel frames.

A: KVA has been producing stainless steel tube sets for many years now, and built the original frame samples over 5 years ago. We have extensive experience in production manufacturing of tubing and fabricated tubular products, making frame manufacturing a natural fit for our capabilities. With our patented heat treatments, welding processes, and some unique manufacturing equipment developed specifically for manufacturing bicycle frames, INOX frames will be made with a high level of quality and performance at a competitive price.
A: INOX frames are made with MS3 stainless steel tubing, using diameters and thicknesses for a race performance feel. The MS3 tubing is left unpainted to shed the unnecessary weight of the paint. We also have a process for removing extra material from the head tube and bottom brackets, which helps spread the gas that is purged throughout the frame during welding. Because welding alters the microstructure in a rainbow pattern, there is a variation in the strength of the MS3 in the HAZ (Heat Affected Zone). A post weld heat treatment is used to homogenize the stainless steel’s microstructure, which can restore nearly all the strength lost during the welding process. This allows INOX to utilize thinner wall sections in the joint areas by as much as 20%.
A: Large oversized tubing in the main triangle is used to bring the vertical and lateral stiffness up to standards that only steel alloys can achieve. Using a 44.0mm I.D. head tube will enable the rider to choose from several different tapered steering configurations, while the PF 30 bottom bracket will further stiffen the BB area allowing for modern crank setups. For the rear triangle we have selected more traditional size tubes, in order to maintain a level of compliance that steel is known for. This compliance comes from the high inherent stiffness of steel, coupled with the smaller diameter thin wall tubing. The light spring temper of MS3, and the flex of a frame, allow for a suspension action that keeps your tires on the ground so you can go faster.
Geometry has been selected based on traditional race angles. In our opinion, there is no need to change a good thing. When you get on an INOX frame, we want you to experience a body position that feels familiar to other race frames, and steering that feels comfortable and fast.
A: Since KVA Stainless is a small company Joe McCrink and Scott Johnson will be doing the work from mitering to finishing, along with help from a long time (30 plus years) BMX frame welder. KVA has advised numerous OEM frame manufacturing facilities on how to get their processes to a high quality level, so who better to build with stainless steel than the company manufacturing the tubing?
